With regards to data sampling in field campaigns it will be performed on two volcanoes.
Over Etna (or Stromboli) in Italy the field campaign will be organized in collaboration with INGV (Istituto Nazionale Di Geofisica E Vulcanologia). It will involve the ground-based Doppler radar of OPGC (VOLDORAD 2B) and the ATR42 aircraft (SAFIRE infrastructure) to investigate optical and physicochemical properties of volcanic particles and of aerosols from gaseous precursors.
Over Piton de la Fournaise, the field campaign will be based on OVPF’s skill and instrumental fleet (IR-UV cameras, Open-Path-FTIR, DOAS, and MultiGas) in order to quantify heat fluxes, sulphur and other gas fluxes.
Light professional drones flying miniature sensors, developed at CNRM-GAME and at LPC2E in ANR Blanc 2012 VOLTIGE project and in EU-FP7 BACCHUS project, will be used over the two volcanoes in the high concentration environment to measure aerosol dimensional spectra, particle number concentrations, black carbon, turbulence, gas trace and meteorological parameters.
